Habits for Happiness

I want to pose a new question. If the "love of the world" leads to distance from the Father, then why do we (I'm including myself here) constantly struggle with the temptations that emerge from being in a body, living on this earth? We know what we should do, and yet we struggle. I was reading what a renowned "happiness expert" from Yale wrote - yes, that's a thing now - where she made a statement that will stick with me for a long time. She said, "We have some really (she uses a different word here, but I will just say ‘lousy’) intuitions when it comes to the kinds of things that will make us happier." That struck me as being so true. When we come to the parables of Jesus, it is easy to try and skim over them and act like they are not as much of a "gut punch" as they really are - at least I tend to do this. But what if they are the key to joy, the key to unlocking a life of true liberation from the downward spiral of the world's pull?
